This course describes the skills and knowledge required to minimize theft and loss of stock in a retail environment.
It involves applying store policy and procedures and industry codes of practice in regard to store security, theft prevention and correct stock usage; reporting theft or suspicious behavior to relevant personnel; and monitoring stock, work areas, customers and staff to minimize opportunities for theft.
COURSE STRUCTURE
This course is divided in 6 sections with questions posed at the end to reflect on learning. After successful completion of the course, learners will be awarded a certificate of course completion.
At the end of this course, learners would be familiar with the following:
- Applying store security systems and procedures according to store policy.
- Handling and securing cash according to store policy and procedures.
- Observing and dealing with suspicious behavior of customers according to store policy.
- Dealing with internal and external thefts.
- Storing products and equipment in a secure manner.
- Minimizing thefts.
- Maintaining surveillance of merchandise.
- Maintaining security of cash, cash register and keys.
- Maintaining security in regard to customers, staff and outside contractors.
- Dealing with suspected or potential thieves.
- Handling and storing stock.
- Minimizing stock loss through wastage and over supply.
